Kathleen A. Stringer is the Albert B. Prescott Professor of Clinical and Translational Pharmacy at the University of Michigan's College of Pharmacy and holds a joint appointment as Professor of Internal Medicine in the Medical School. She specializes in metabolomics, pharmacometabolomics, and critical care, with a focus on sepsis and biomarker discovery. Dr. Stringer earned her PharmD from the University of Michigan in 1985, completed a clinical pharmacy residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago (1986), and served as a fellow at the University of Colorado HSC (1996) and the University at Buffalo (2024).
Her research explores metabolic pathways in sepsis, critical illness biomarkers, and translational therapeutics. She is affiliated with the
- Precision Health Initiative
- Center for Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics
- Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center
Recent work highlights bacterial DNA as a novel sepsis severity biomarker, microbiome-derived acetate’s role in hyperinflammation, and early metabolic changes predicting organ dysfunction. Her studies span biomarker validation, pharmacotherapy optimization, and experimental therapeutics in critical care settings.
Dr. Stringer has received fellowships from leading institutions and collaborates on NIH-funded projects. She mentors students and researchers in metabolomics and clinical pharmacy, emphasizing translational research to improve patient outcomes in severe infections and critical illnesses.
