Dr Katherine Young is a Visiting Lecturer at King’s College London’s Social, Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry Centre (SGDP), part of the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience. Her research focuses on translational neuroscience of anxiety and depression, particularly adolescent anhedonia. She holds a DPhil from Oxford University and completed postdoctoral work at UCLA with Prof. Michelle Craske.
Education:

- DPhil in Psychiatry, Oxford University
Research Interests: Combines neuroimaging (fMRI/MEG), psychophysiology, and behavioral testing to study mental health mechanisms. Current projects include FLARe (modelling anxiety disorder processes) and RAMP (assessing pandemic mental health impacts). Her work bridges basic science and clinical applications, including psychological intervention mechanisms.
Awards: 2021 MQ Mental Health Research grant for pandemic mental health studies in youth. Active in public engagement, consulting on BBC TV projects about adolescent mental health and technology.
Grants/Advising: MQ-funded studies on depression/anxiety in young people during post-pandemic recovery. Collaborates on digital mental health tools and fear learning experiments via the FLARe app.
Labs/Teams: SGDP Centre, leading the FLARe and RAMP projects. Engaged with interdisciplinary teams across neuroscience, psychiatry, and public health sectors.
