Katherine W. Bauer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. She holds affiliations with the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation, the Caswell Diabetes Institute, the Sustainable Food Systems Initiative, and Poverty Solutions. Her research focuses on social, personal, and behavioral influences on children's eating and growth, particularly how families and food assistance policies impact nutrition and health outcomes.
Dr. Bauer's work examines parental self-regulation, parent-directed weight stigma, and food insecurity, supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, W. K. Kellogg Foundation, Michigan Farm Bureau Family of Companies, and the Michigan Health Endowment Fund. She teaches courses like NUTR650: Socio-ecological Approaches to Child and Adolescent Nutrition and PUBHLTH309: Hunger in America: Building Skills to Feed Communities.
