Katherine Raw

Dr. Katherine Raw is a Lecturer in Sport Management at Swinburne University of Technology's School of Business, Law and Entrepreneurship. Her research focuses on the intersection of Sport for Development (SFD) and professionalization of sport organizations, emphasizing social impact, gender equity, and inclusive governance. She collaborates with institutions like Deakin University, Louisiana State University, and partners such as Tennis Australia and the Commonwealth Secretariat. Her work spans Australia, Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga, and East Timor.

Research interests include leveraging sport to drive societal change, managing SFD initiatives for equitable outcomes, and addressing barriers to participation for underrepresented groups. She has contributed to reports on gender diversity in sports governance and professionalizing grassroots clubs.

Katherine’s awards include the 2025 SMAANZ Industry Engagement Grant, 2024 JSFD Early Career Scholar Award, and 2022 SMAANZ Best Research Paper Award. She mentors PhD students and supervises research on community engagement and sport policy. Her grants include projects on gender diversity in sport and monitoring programs for women’s participation.
