Associate Professor Katherine Owens is an expert in climate, environmental, and water law at the University of Sydney Law School, where she serves as Director of the Australian Centre for Climate and Environmental Law and Co-theme Lead of the Transformative Governance research theme at the Sydney Environment Institute. Her research focuses on how legal frameworks foster inclusion, innovation, and cooperation for decarbonization, climate adaptation, and equitable water reallocation, integrating theories of experimentalism, deliberative democracy, and regulatory governance.
Education: PhD (University of Sydney, 2015); LLM Energy and Environmental Law (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, summa cum laude); LLB (Hons) and BA (University of Canterbury, New Zealand).
