Katherine Newman

Katherine Newman is the Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs for the University of California system and the Chancellor’s Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Public Policy at UC Berkeley. She has held prominent academic and administrative roles, including prior positions at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Johns Hopkins University.

• Research spans socioeconomic inequality, labor markets, globalization, and urban policy.
• Authored 15 books on topics like retirement insecurity, working-class challenges, and school violence.
