Katherine Meizel is a Professor of Ethnomusicology at Bowling Green State University's College of Musical Arts. She holds a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, along with D.M.A., M.M., and bachelor's degrees in Vocal Performance.
- Research focuses on voice studies, popular music, media, religion, identity, and disability studies.
- Published books include Multivocality: Singing on the Borders of Identity (2020) and Idolized: Music, Media, and Identity in American Idol (2011).
- Co-edited the Oxford Handbook of Voice Studies (2019).
Teaches undergraduate courses in world musics, global pop, and music theory for theater, plus graduate seminars in ethnomusicology research methods and disability studies. Leads an Old Time String Band ensemble. Engages in public scholarship through NPR, The Conversation, and co-producing the protest album Raise Your Voice: The Sound of Student Protest (2018).
