Katherine Krimmel is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Barnard College, part of Columbia University. She previously served at Boston University's political science department. Her research focuses on political parties, public opinion, American political development, polarization, and fiscal politics, employing modern data tools for analysis and visualization. Krimmel holds a Ph.D., M.Phil., and M.A. from Columbia University, and a B.S. from Northwestern University.

Her research explores how policy positions shape party competition and examines issues like racial equity in fiscal politics, LGBTQ+ rights in Congress, and legislative processes affecting civil rights. She has been recognized with the Hahn-Sigelman Prize (2017) and a AAUW Postdoctoral Fellowship (2021-22). Her upcoming book Divergent Democracy (Princeton University Press) analyzes shifts in party competition dynamics.
Teaching focuses on American political parties, democratic erosion, and gender policy. She has held fellowships at the Miller Center and Columbia University, and her work appears in journals like American Politics Research and Legislative Studies Quarterly.
