Katherine Burlingame is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Archaeology at the University of Oslo, Norway, with a research focus on heritage landscapes, cultural-natural intersections, and environmental ethics in a changing climate. She works on the Relics of Nature project funded by the Norwegian Research Council, analyzing UNESCO World Heritage Laponian landscape in Sweden through a 'more-than-human' approach.

Her research bridges cultural heritage, environmental humanities, and affective landscape experiences. She pioneered a heritage landscape analysis model linking historical and contemporary landscape functions and advocates for rewilding as a framework to strengthen environmental ethics in heritage studies. Her work spans multiple continents and time periods, emphasizing intangible heritage, storytelling, and qualitative methodologies.
Recent publications address rewilding, interdisciplinary landscape research, and heritage in the Anthropocene. Awards include the 2023 Penn State Outstanding Early Career Alumni Award and the 2021 Vetenskapssocieteten Dissertation Award. She serves on the International Editorial Advisory Board for the Landscape Research Journal and is an active member of ICOMOS Sweden.
