Katherine Bullock is a Lecturer in Islamic politics at the Department of Political Science, University of Toronto Mississauga. She serves as a TV host for Sound Vision Foundation’s Muslim News Canada and as President of Compass Books, a publishing company focusing on Islam and Muslims in English.
Her research emphasizes the history and contemporary experiences of Canadian Muslims, including political/civic engagement, debates on veiling, media representations, and Muslim perspectives on zakat and Basic Income. Her work also addresses anti-Muslim racism faced by healthcare workers. She has authored influential books such as Muslim Women Activists in North America: Speaking for Ourselves and Rethinking Muslim Women and the Veil, translated into multiple languages. Currently teaching POL303Y and POL391S, she combines academic rigor with community-focused scholarship.
Originally from Australia, she embraced Islam in 1994 and has since dedicated her career to amplifying Muslim narratives through academia and media. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges political science, sociology, and Islamic studies.
