Katherine Buckel is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia Law School, teaching courses such as 'Ex. Immigration Defense' and related fieldwork. She holds a J.D. cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center (2010) with a Certificate in Refugees and Humanitarian Emergencies. Her professional experience includes five years as a supervising attorney and staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society’s Immigration Law Unit, representing clients in immigration courts, federal courts, and the Board of Immigration Appeals. Prior roles include clerkship at the Eastern District of New York and private practice at Latham & Watkins.
Her expertise focuses on immigration defense, human rights advocacy, and refugee protection. Pre-law, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Haiti and the Dominican Republic (2002–2005) and earned a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2002, highest honors).
