Katherine Balch is Assistant Professor of Composition at Yale School of Music, Yale University. Internationally celebrated as "some kind of musical Thomas Edison," she explores the intimacy of everyday sounds through acoustic, electroacoustic, and installation works published by Schott Music.

Research & Creative Focus: Balch is a collector of aural delights; field recordings and found sounds sit at the heart of her work. She investigates quotidian objects, natural processes, and new textural ideas across acoustic and mixed-media genres, often integrating wind-chimes and site-specific elements.
Performances & Commissions: Her music has been premiered and toured by the New York Philharmonic, Ensemble Modern, London Sinfonietta, Tanglewood, Suntory Summer Arts (Japan), Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (UK), and the symphony orchestras of Tokyo, Darmstadt, Minnesota, Oregon, Albany, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, and Dallas—indicating a global trajectory in contemporary orchestral and chamber music.
