Katherine A. Mason is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Brown University, where she conducts research as a medical anthropologist. Her work bridges the fields of public health and anthropology, with a focus on China and the United States. She is known for her book "Infectious Change: Reinventing Chinese Public Health after an Epidemic" (Stanford, 2016) and is currently developing a multi-sited ethnographic study on perinatal mood disorders.
Dr. Mason's primary research areas include Medical Anthropology and Public Health, specializing in the ethics and professionalization of public health systems following epidemics like SARS in China. Her current project investigates perinatal mood disorders across U.S. and Chinese contexts using ethnographic methods to analyze cultural and structural determinants of maternal mental health.
