Katherine A. Adelsberger is Chair and Professor of Environmental Studies at Knox College, holding the Douglas and Maria Bayer Endowed Chair in Earth Sciences. She has been at Knox since 2008 and specializes in geoarchaeology, focusing on human-environment interactions through site formation processes, paleoenvironmental reconstruction, and desert pavement development. Her research spans Egypt, Jordan, and the U.S., with fieldwork in deserts and river basins.
Education: Ph.D. (2008), Washington University; A.M. (2005), Washington University-St. Louis; B.S. (2002), Beloit College.
Research explores how societies adapt to environmental changes, including tracking ancient river systems and spring deposits. She has secured grants such as NSF Major Research Instrumentation (2014) and ACLS SAIL grants (2014), and awards like the Douglas C. Kellogg Award (2007). Her work bridges geology and archaeology, emphasizing field-based methodologies.
