Katharine Welsh is an Associate Professor and University Innovation Fellow at the University of Chester, teaching in Geography and Natural Hazard Management. She leads educational change initiatives while researching technology-enhanced fieldwork learning, flood risk modeling, and sustainable behaviors.
She holds a PhD from the University of Liverpool and directs the Enhancing Fieldwork Learning initiative, running annual staff development events. Her interdisciplinary research spans flood modeling using palaeoenvironmental records, community flood resilience, and sustainable habit formation post-COVID-19.
Welsh's work on BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) in fieldwork has influenced pedagogical practices across disciplines. Current projects include developing a gamified app to sustain pro-environmental behaviors emerging during the pandemic, funded by the Royal Geographical Society.
She serves on editorial boards for geoscience communication journals and contributes to European geoscience education networks through the European Geophysical Union.
