Katharine Hayhoe is a Paul Whitfield Horn Distinguished Professor and Endowed Chair in Public Policy and Public Law in the Department of Political Science at Texas Tech University. She concurrently serves as the Chief Scientist for The Nature Conservancy, a global conservation organization. Her academic foundation includes a B.Sc. in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Toronto, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, complemented by honorary doctorates from four institutions.
Her research specializes in high-resolution climate projections to evaluate climate change impacts on society and ecosystems, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches bridging atmospheric science, policy, and human dimensions. She develops methods like STAR-ESDM for downscaling global climate data to local scales and examines links between climate change and infrastructure, health equity, and public perception.
Dr. Hayhoe's publications consistently focus on actionable climate science, with recent works exploring national climate assessments, renewable energy vulnerabilities, health resilience, and innovative modeling techniques. Her articles prioritize translating complex climate data into solutions for policymakers and communities.
