Katharine Finnegan is a Part-Time Lecturer at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts University, where she teaches Painting to undergraduate students on the Medford Campus. She received her BFA from SMFA/Tufts University in 1980 and has studied under Professor Kaji Aso at the Kaji Aso Studio in Boston, where she now serves as Executive Director.

Finnegan’s artistic practice is deeply influenced by her childhood in Japan and her engagement with Japanese culture, including tea ceremony and sumi painting. Her work has been displayed at iconic venues such as Boston City Hall, the Boston Public Library, and international locations through collaborative river expedition exhibitions organized with Kaji Aso.
She has taught at Tufts University, Kaji Aso Studio, and the Cambridge Center for Adult Education, while leading workshops across colleges, universities, and schools. Her artworks, including notable pieces like Molten Runes (2018) and Wishes Becoming Stars (2017), are housed in private and corporate collections.
