Katharine Currie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University's College of Education. Her research focuses on cardiovascular responses to exercise across health and disease spectrums, with emphasis on exercise-induced adaptations and blood pressure dynamics. She holds a Ph.D. from McMaster University.
Her research has two primary areas: predicting cardiovascular adaptations through acute exercise responses and investigating blood pressure responses in diverse populations, including elite athletes and individuals with spinal cord injuries. Notable projects include studies on arterial stiffness in athletes, spinal cord injury cardiovascular dysfunction, and HIIT efficacy in pediatric and clinical populations.
Her work has explored autonomic cardiovascular control in spinal cord injury patients, exercise interventions for chronic diseases, and the physiological mechanisms underlying exaggerated blood pressure responses. She has contributed to understanding the 'athlete's heart' phenomenon and the interplay between exercise and vascular health.
Currie’s research integrates clinical, experimental, and applied perspectives, addressing gaps in exercise physiology and rehabilitation science.
