معرفی
Christopher West is an Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Medicine, affiliated with the Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences and the Experimental Medicine graduate program. His work bridges translational physiology and spinal cord injury research.
Education
- PhD in Sport & Exercise Science (Spinal Cord Injury) – Brunel University (2011)
- MSc in Sport & Exercise Science (Human Performance) – Brunel University (2008)
- BSc in Sport & Exercise Science – The University of Essex (2004)
Research Focus
Dr. West leads the Translational Integrative Physiology Laboratory at the Blusson Spinal Cord Center, investigating cardiovascular and pulmonary responses to spinal cord injury across pre-clinical (rodents, pigs) and clinical populations, including Paralympic athletes. His methodologies combine cardiac imaging (MRI, ultrasound), invasive preparations, and molecular/histological analyses.
Awards & Affiliations
- Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Associate Member
- Rick Hansen Institute Scholar
- Affiliated with the International Collaboration On Repair Discoveries (ICORD) and Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Management
Research Support
His lab receives funding from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, British Columbia Knowledge Development Fund, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Rick Hansen Institute, and Craig Neilsen Foundation. Current projects include the first trial on acute cardiac responses to spinal cord injury during spine surgery.
