Katharina Zinn is an Associate Professor in Egyptian Archaeology and Heritage at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, within the Institute of Education and Humanities. She also serves as Institute Manager of Research Degrees, Board Member of the Doctoral College, and Member of the Research Degrees Committee. Her interdisciplinary work bridges Egyptology with material culture studies, heritage, museum studies, and anthropology. She has held visiting roles at Northeast Normal University (China) and delivered workshops at Guangzhou and Xian Academies of Fine Arts. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and member of AHRC Peer Review College, UKRI Talent Peer Review College, Egypt Exploration Society, and other professional bodies.
Her research focuses on museum objects' narratives, decolonizing Egyptology, and the intersection of material culture with heritage identity. She curates annual pop-up exhibitions (e.g., 'Museum of Lies') and collaborates with artists to reinterpret Egyptian artifacts. Recent projects include re-evaluating unprovenanced museum collections and exploring object biographies. She supervises PhD, MRes, and ProfDoc students in Egyptology, heritage, and museum studies.
Zinn has extensive curatorial experience, including roles at Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery, and has organized exhibitions like 'FoodStuffs – Food in time and space' (2014) and 'Sacred Landscapes' (2020). Her publications span edited volumes on food materiality and object biographies, and peer-reviewed articles on literacy, sacred landscapes, and material culture's role in memory.
Awards include SFHEA and recognition in the HEA Fellowship Scheme. She has served as external examiner for programs at Cambridge and Chester Universities and acts as Academic Lead for the Museums Portalis Project.
