Katharina Schöppl, M.A. is a Researcher at the University of Mannheim's Institute for Media and Communication Studies, affiliated with Prof. Dr. Matthias Kohring's Chair. She has been working there since February 2025, focusing on R Statistics exercises and her cumulative dissertation on alternative media's role in social polarization. Previously, she served as a research assistant and project coordinator in the DFG-funded study 'Alternative Media – Alternative Public Spheres – Alternative Realities?' at the Universities of Augsburg and Bremen.
Education:
- Master's in Communication Science (University of Salzburg)
- Master's in Political Science (University of Salzburg)
Research Interests: Katharina explores alternative media, counter-publics, gender dynamics, science communication, political communication, and visual communication. She employs both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to analyze media's societal impact and user behaviors.
Teaching: She has taught at the Universities of Augsburg and Bremen, integrating her research into pedagogical practice. Her current role includes teaching R Statistics modules.
Labs/Teams: Active in Prof. Kohring's research team and previously in Prof. Schwarzenegger's DFG project group.
