Katharina Bonzel

Dr Katharina Bonzel is a Lecturer in the School of Literature, Languages & Linguistics at The Australian National University. Her research focuses on national/transnational cinema, genre films (particularly sports and action), documentary, and gender in film and television. She explores themes such as longing, the uncanny, and moral ambiguity in cinematic narratives.

Her work bridges film theory and cultural studies, examining how sports, identity, and media intersect. Recent publications include analyses of post-9/11 televisual policing, German cinema’s exploration of Heimat, and the role of sports in national narratives.
