Katharina Baum

Professor Katharina Baum serves as Assistant Professor for Data Integration in the Life Sciences at the Institute of Computer Science, Free University Berlin, where she heads the Data Integration in the Life Sciences (DILiS) research group. Her office is located at Takustr. 9, Room 161 in Berlin, and she maintains an active research program with connections to the Hasso Plattner Institute and Mount Sinai's Icahn School of Medicine.

Dr. Baum's research centers on the intersection of network science, machine learning, and biomedical applications. Her work focuses on integrating multi-omics data through network-based approaches to address challenges in drug response prediction and biomolecular analysis. Key projects include DrDimont for multi-omics network-based prediction of differential drug response, graph neural networks for drug response prediction with uncertainty quantification, proteogenomic abundance imputation, and informing machine learning through simulations from dynamical models.

Her teaching portfolio spans lectures, seminars, and software projects in data analysis with biomedical applications, covering machine learning, graph theory, and dynamical models. She actively supervises Bachelor's and Master's theses with topics ranging from transfer learning for time series data to network motif relevance metrics and graph neural networks for proteomics data imputation.
