Dr. Katerina Mavrou is an Associate Professor of Inclusive Education and Assistive Technology at the Department of Educational Sciences, European University Cyprus. She holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham (2007), focusing on computer-based collaborative learning in integrated classrooms. Her academic journey includes roles as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Cyprus (2013) and a Special Scientist at Cyprus University of Technology (2011).
Her research spans inclusive education, assistive technology, digital inclusion, and special education policy. Key projects include leadership in the ENTELIS+ initiative (digital accessibility training) and contributions to the GREAT Summit on global assistive technology priorities. She has advised on EU-funded projects like ESIPP (parent training for autism) and BONDS (social inclusion for immigrant families).
Dr. Mavrou has authored over 50 publications, including works on universal design in curricula, pandemic impacts on disabled students, and tangible user interfaces for inclusive education. Awards include the Emerald Publishing Highly Commended Paper Award (2014) and roles as President-Elect of AAATE (Association for Assistive Technology).
Her teaching and research emphasize bridging the digital divide, empowering educators through technology, and advocating for disability rights in education systems. She coordinates the ENTELIS Network Steering Committee and serves as a National Expert in the Academic Network of European Disability Experts (ANED).
