Katerina Manevska is an Assistant Professor in Cultural and Political Sociology at the Department of Political Science, Nijmegen School of Management, Radboud University in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. She conducts research on belief change, ethnocentrism, and political socialization, with a particular focus on understanding how individual and societal conditions influence adults' beliefs about institutional trust, ethnic outgroups, gender identities, and economic redistribution.
Manevska received her PhD in 2014 from Erasmus University Rotterdam with a dissertation on ethnocentrism, funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research. Her academic training also includes studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Radboud University. She employs quantitative methods to place people's subjective realities at the center of social scientific analysis.
Her research program examines the interplay between cultural value patterns and societal structures in shaping political beliefs and behavior. Manevska has demonstrated that people interpret information from their social context according to pre-existing beliefs, amplifying these beliefs, while also investigating the specific conditions under which belief change actually occurs. Her work challenges the traditional assumption that political beliefs formed in youth remain stable throughout adulthood.
Manevska's publication record reveals a consistent trajectory from ethnocentrism research to broader investigations of belief change across multiple domains. Her recent work examines how workplace experiences, particularly voice suppression by supervisors, influence political attitudes and voting behavior, showing how experiences in one life domain can reshape beliefs in seemingly unrelated domains. This interdisciplinary approach bridges organizational behavior, political psychology, and cultural sociology.
As an educator, Manevska teaches courses including Identity: Politics and Society at the bachelor's level and Political Socialization, Social Science Research Methods, and Master Thesis Design at the master's level. Since 2021, she has served as program director for the two-year educational master program in social studies and social sciences.
Manevska actively supervises bachelor's, master's, and PhD theses, mentoring students in cultural and political sociology research. She is involved in significant research projects including the NWO VICI-project 'Linking the discontented employee and the discontented citizen' and recently organized a KNAW workshop on 'Explaining political and cultural change: Interdisciplinary perspectives on political socialization' to advance understanding of adult belief change.
