Professor Kater Murch is Charles M. Hohenberg Professor of Physics and Director of the Center for Quantum Leaps at Washington University in St. Louis. His lab constructs superconducting quantum circuits to study quantum measurement, quantum foundations, and quantum thermodynamics.
Research focuses on quantum trajectories of superconducting qubits, quantum measurement backaction, Maxwell's demon experiments, and quantum Zeno effects. Work aims to engineer quantum system-environment interactions for enhanced coherence and control.
Significant contributions include developing methods to observe single quantum trajectories, quantum state tomography via weak measurement, and exploring time symmetry in quantum measurement processes.
