Dr. Kate Skipsey is a Continuing Sessional Instructor in the Academic and Technical Writing Program (ATWP) at the University of Victoria. She specializes in teaching engineering-specific writing courses (ENGR 110, 120, 240) and focuses on fostering critical thinking and writing skills. Her PhD (University of Saskatchewan) and MA (Saskatchewan) underpin her expertise in disability studies, with research on 18th-century novels and conduct manuals. She emphasizes accessibility and inclusivity in her teaching, addressing academic ableism.

Her research explores disability in Jane Austen and Frances Burney’s novels, linking sensibility theories to disability representation.
