Dr. Kate Simpson is a Visiting Researcher at the School of Public Health, part of the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London, where she contributes to the Warm and Well project on digital energy technology in homes. Concurrently, she holds an Associate Professor position at the Centre for Sustainable Construction and Retrofit, Nottingham Trent University. Her work bridges academia, policy, and community engagement to address energy insecurity and climate resilience in housing.
Education includes a PhD in housing energy retrofit from Loughborough University’s LoLo CDT in Energy Demand, an MRes in indoor air quality, and a BSc in Building Surveying from Leeds Beckett University. She has also conducted research at UCL Energy Institute and the University of Leeds.
Her research focuses on sustainable construction, housing energy efficiency, and societal impacts of retrofitting. Notable contributions include award-winning public engagement through film and immersive workshops, promoting community involvement in energy policy. She advises initiatives like the UKRI Retrofit Revisit project and sits on boards of organizations such as People Powered Retrofit and Care and Repair, Leeds.
Her projects emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration, linking urban design, sociology, and environmental science to create equitable solutions for affordable home comfort. Current affiliations include the Environmental Research Group and the Network of Excellence in Air Quality at Imperial College.
