Professor Kate Schreckenberg is a leading academic in Environment and Development at King's College London, serving as Head of the Department of Geography and a member of the School of Global Affairs. Her research focuses on natural resource governance, equity in ecosystem services, and conservation policy, with over 30 years of global fieldwork experience in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. She holds a PhD in Geography from SOAS, University of London, and has contributed to major initiatives like the £43m Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation (ESPA) programme.
Key roles include leadership in interdisciplinary research groups such as the Political Ecology, Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services (PEBES) and the Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires, Environment and Society. Her work emphasizes participatory methods and policy influence, addressing topics like climate resilience, protected area management, and food security.
Recent projects include studies on woodland expansion in the Cairngorms, stakeholder engagement in marine protected areas, and the socio-ecological dynamics of food insecurity in Amazonian communities.
