Professor Kate Nguyen is a Deputy Head of Department (Research & Innovation) in Civil & Infrastructure Engineering at RMIT University. Her work focuses on sustainable construction materials, fire safety solutions, and façade engineering. She leads RMIT's Innovative Fire and Facade Engineering Group and has attracted over $10 million in research grants.
Research Interests:
- Nanocomposites and flame-retardant materials
- Fire-safe infrastructure for renewable energy
- Automation in construction and composite materials
- Building façade design and thermal performance
Awards:
- L'OREAL-UNESCO For Women in Science Fellowship (2020)
- Batterham Medal for Engineering Excellence (2021)

Labs/Teams: Leads the Innovative Fire and Facade Engineering Group and collaborates with ARC hubs like the Transformation of Reclaimed Waste Resources (TREMS) and Whole Life Design of Carbon Neutral Infrastructure (DfCO2).
