Kate McQuillen serves as a Critic (Lecturer) in the Department of Printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). A Brooklyn-based artist, she maintains an active exhibition practice with recent solo and group shows at Massey Klein Gallery (New York), Thierry Goldberg Gallery (New York), and Coherent Gallery (Brussels). She co-founded Super Dutchess, an artist-run project space on Manhattan's Lower East Side.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Massachusetts College of Art and a Master of Fine Arts from York University.
McQuillen's interdisciplinary practice bridges painting and printmaking within contemporary art discourse. Critical analyses of her work have appeared in The Brooklyn Rail, Art in Print, Hyperallergic, and The Chicago Reader, while her own critical essays on peer artists feature in Art in Print, Power Washer Zine, and Graphic Impressions. Her visual language explores materiality and spatial tension through acrylic-on-panel compositions like Crossing Line Breaks (2024) and Hero Worship (2022).
Professional development includes residencies at Mass MoCA, Ox-Bow School of Art, and Belgium's Frans Masereel Centrum, which inform her experimental approach to surface and form.
