Kate Malleson is Professor of Law at Queen Mary University of London's School of Law, specializing in judiciary systems and equality law. Her research examines judicial independence, selection processes, and diversity in legal institutions, with current British Academy-funded projects on judicial appointments commissions.
As Co-Director of the Centre for Research on Law, Equality and Diversity, she investigates protected characteristics in equality law and institutional barriers to diversity. Her publications analyze UK Supreme Court evolution, judicial identity, and gatekeeping mechanisms in legal professions.
She supervises doctoral candidates in law and founded the Equal Justices Initiative promoting gender-balanced judicial appointments. Her work informs policy debates through regular engagement with legal practitioners and judiciary committees.
