Dr. Kate Leger is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Kentucky, within the College of Arts & Sciences. Her research focuses on emotional responses to daily stressors, pathways linking stress to long-term health, and individual differences in stress reactivity. She holds a B.A. from Carleton College (2010), and M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology and Social Behavior from the University of California, Irvine (2015 & 2018).
Her work emphasizes how daily stress processes influence health outcomes across lifespan stages, with a particular interest in aging populations and educators. She investigates emotion regulation strategies like cognitive reappraisal, sleep dynamics, and the role of positive affect in mitigating stress impacts. Dr. Leger is affiliated with the Health, Society and Populations group and has contributed to studies on pandemic-era teacher well-being and long-term health consequences of stress variability.
Her recent publications explore links between daily stressors, sleep patterns, and health markers, leveraging longitudinal datasets like MIDUS. She emphasizes translational research to bridge psychological mechanisms and real-world health interventions.
