Kate Lavender is a Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education (Lifelong Learning) at the University of Huddersfield, where she serves as Director of Graduate Education. She joined the university in 2017 and previously held roles in further education colleges and universities. Her academic background includes a BA in Sociology and Criminology from the University of Liverpool, an MSc in Social Research and Evaluation from the University of Huddersfield, and a PhD (2016) examining mature students' experiences in further education colleges.
Her research focuses on further and adult education, emphasizing higher-level vocational education, mentorship in teacher training, and policy impacts. Notable projects include investigating former trainees' needs (2016), subject specialist mentors' experiences (2018 grant), and the professional development of FE teacher educators (2024 project). She has also explored pandemic effects on primary schooling in North Halifax (2020–21 project).
Her publications span topics like Bourdieu's sociological framework applied to education, vocational policy in China, and tertiary education futures. Lavender actively participates in academic activities, including editorial roles, conference presentations, and PhD examinations at institutions like the University of Stirling and Bolton.
