Dr. Kate Lancaster is a Senior Lecturer at the University of York, affiliated with the York Plasma Institute within the School of Physics, Engineering, and Technology. Her research focuses on experimental plasma physics, particularly laser-plasma interactions, fast electron generation, and inertial fusion energy. She holds a PhD from Imperial College London (2005) and a BSc from the University of Surrey (2001). Lancaster has served in roles including York Plasma Institute Research Fellow (2015–2018) and Plasma and Fusion Industry Officer (2012–2015). Her work includes grants like the Royal Society International Exchanges Award (2018–2020) and supervision of PhD students.
Teaching responsibilities include the MSc in Fusion Energy and undergraduate supervision. Her outreach includes BBC science documentaries and lectures at GCSE Science Live! and the Royal Institution. Professional memberships include the STFC Physical Sciences and Engineering advisory panel and FuseNet academic council. Her research spans laser-driven plasma diagnostics, fusion energy, and high-intensity laser interactions.
