Kate Evans is a Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Immigrant Rights Clinic at Duke University School of Law. She teaches courses such as U.S. Immigration and Nationality Law, Crimmigration Law, and supervises clinical programs. Previously, she directed the Immigration Litigation and Appellate Clinic at the University of Idaho College of Law and served as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Minnesota Law School’s Binger Center for New Americans, where she led Mellouli v. Lynch litigation at the U.S. Supreme Court.
Research Interests: Kate Evans specializes in immigration law and policy, with a focus on deportation relief, healthcare access for immigrants, crimmigration, and legal advocacy. Her work examines the intersection of immigration enforcement, due process, and systemic reforms to ensure fair adjudication.
Publications Trends: Her scholarship spans law reviews, practitioner journals, and policy commentaries, addressing themes like risk assessment, automation in detention, and health disparities. Recent works highlight procedural injustices under the Trump administration and the need for structural reforms in immigration courts.
Education and Advocacy: Evans holds a JD from New York University School of Law and a BA in International Development Studies from Brown University. She clerked for federal and state judges and worked with Doctors Without Borders before entering academia.
