Kate Dewsnip is a Graduate Teaching Fellow and PhD candidate at the University of Liverpool's School of Law and Social Justice, appointed in 2021. She holds an LLB from the University of Liverpool (2017) and an LLM from the University of Cambridge (2018). A non-practising barrister since 2019 (called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of Inner Temple), she previously worked in legal practice for two years before commencing her PhD.
Her research focuses on constitutional law and legislative scrutiny, particularly examining the scrutiny of emergency legislation during crises. Her doctoral thesis, titled 'Scrutiny in the United Kingdom Legislative Process: Parliament in Ordinary and Exceptional Times', is supervised by Professors Michael Gordon and Michelle Farrell. The project analyzes legislative scrutiny mechanisms across constitutional bills, fast-tracked legislation, and treaties, exploring parliamentary dynamics in both routine and exceptional circumstances.
