Kate Colgrave Pope serves as Programme Director for Actor Training at Rose Bruford College Wigan, joining the institution in September 2023. A London native with roots in Greenwich and Lewisham's community theatre scene, she trained as an actor at Drama Centre London and has spent 14 years as an honorary Mancunian creating theatre across Greater Manchester.
Her research focuses on acting methodologies (specializing in Uta Hagen, Lee Strasberg, and Stanford Meisner techniques), devising processes, and community-engaged dramaturgy. She pioneers inclusive actor training frameworks that address contemporary societal challenges while maintaining rigorous physical, mental, and academic development.
Her professional work demonstrates strong alignment with her pedagogical philosophy of co-intentional learning, where student ownership of creative instincts drives artistic success. Though no formal publications appear in the provided materials, her practice-based research manifests through community collaborations addressing housing crises, prison systems, and cultural identity.
- Key Community Projects:
- Partners of Prisoners (POPS): Verbatim theatre exploring families' experiences with incarceration
- Can You Hear Us from up Here?: Tower block residents' response to Grenfell
- World Stages: Ukraine cultural exchange with British Council
As an active freelance director, she maintains critical industry connections through venues like Royal Exchange Theatre, HOME, and Bolton Octagon, ensuring curriculum relevance to evolving professional landscapes.
