Kate Cawley is a Lecturer in the School of Design at RMIT University, specializing in studio teaching for animation and interaction within the Masters of Animation, Games and Interactive Media (MAGI) program. She has been a faculty member since 2002, focusing on curriculum design and studio-based learning. Her research explores Online Studios and Community of Practice frameworks, alongside delivering funded workshops in Australia and the Pacific. She has secured Erasmus Grant funding and advised on creative projects, blending practice-based creativity with management and producing roles.
Research interests include animated film, digital media, interactive design, and narrative forms across media. Her work emphasizes evolving tools for storytelling and collaboration. Over 20 years, she has contributed to the animation and interactive media industries in diverse roles, including producing, consulting, and management.
Awards include recognition at the Hugo Television Awards, Chicago International Film Festival, and Flickerfest. Her creative outputs span animation series, short films, and educational materials. She advocates for narrative innovation and the integration of emerging technologies in creative practices.
