Kate Campbell

Kate Campbell is a faculty member at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) specializing in Professional Development. She serves as the Collegiate Professional Development Contact and teaches PDV 208 - Building a Private Studio. Campbell is also an active performer specializing in contemporary music and interdisciplinary projects.

Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from SFCM and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has studied with Catherine Kautsky and Paul Hersh.

Campbell is renowned as a "brilliant pianist" (Financial Times) and "powerful player" (Santa Cruz Sentinel). Her research and performance interests focus on contemporary music, piano performance, music education, and interdisciplinary projects. She is particularly passionate about creating resources for composers writing piano works for students and developing sustainable private music studios.

Campbell directs Soundwise Piano Studio, a multi-teacher music school in Berkeley serving over 100 students. She mentors new teachers and emphasizes creating authentic music careers for students. Her teaching philosophy centers on the belief that "the best way to get an advanced student is to make one."

As pianist for the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, she regularly premieres works by leading composers. Her recorded work appears on New Amsterdam Records, Pinna Records, and New Focus Recordings. A faculty recital is scheduled for February 6, 2026 at Barbro Osher Recital Hall.
