Kate Barnes is a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Science at the College of Science and Engineering, University of Derby. Her research focuses on forensic entomology and microbial ecology, particularly examining arthropod-microbe interactions on vertebrate remains and environmental impacts on blow fly behavior. She has published extensively on decomposition processes, nocturnal oviposition patterns, and forensic applications of insect biology.
Barnes maintains active research in microbial influences on insect development and antibacterial properties of medicinal maggots. Her work bridges forensic science with environmental biology, developing protocols for rearing bacteria and maggots concurrently for experimental research.
