Dr. Kate Barker is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester's IMP Innovation, Strategy and Sustainability department, part of the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research. Her work focuses on research policy, innovation systems, and the impact of scientific knowledge on public policy. She holds a first degree in medical cell biology and a Master's in Structure and Organisation of Science and Technology from the Programme for Research in Science and Technology (PREST).
Key research areas include sustainable development goals (particularly SDG contributions), research evaluation methodologies, and the intersection of science with policy-making. She has led/co-led major projects such as ERA-LEARN (2015-2022) and SIAMPI (2009-2011), focusing on research networks and social impact assessment methods.
