Kate Baker

Kate Baker is a Lecturer in Bioscience at Keele University's School of Life Sciences, teaching courses including Animal Welfare, Plant Science, and Microbiology. Her research focuses on sustainable agricultural practices and soil ecology in the context of climate change.

Research examines soil microbial ecology, greenhouse gas emissions from farmland, and ecological impacts of solar farms. She leads soils research for the BioGain project, investigating how land-based solar installations affect biodiversity and nutrient cycling.

Publications focus on soil management (2019-2021), including compaction effects on grassland yields and nitrous oxide mitigation. Earlier work addressed microbial community dynamics and fungicide degradation (2009-2010).
