Kate Astall is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Leeds Law School, Leeds Beckett University. A qualified solicitor with a first-class degree in Politics, she transitioned to academia after a career in legal practice specializing in complex criminal cases, civil liberties, and serious personal injury litigation. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, teaching modules such as Client Care Skills, Criminal Litigation, and Tort Law. Her research focuses on media bias and its impact on miscarriages of justice, alongside criminal justice system reforms. Recent work includes co-authoring an analysis of contempt of court laws in the social media age. She has advised on child protection cases for national sports bodies and engaged in European Court of Human Rights applications.
