Dr Katarzyna Lakoma is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economics, Policy and Public Management within Nottingham Business School. Her work focuses on accountability and governance in local government and emergency services. She earned her PhD in Public Administration from Nottingham Business School in 2024, with a thesis titled 'The implications of governance changes on understandings of accountability: The case of Fire and Rescue Services in England.'

Katarzyna's research bridges public administration, management, and accounting, with a specific emphasis on governance reforms in emergency services. She has published in journals such as Public Administration, Public Management Review, and International Journal of Emergency Services, and co-authored the book Rebuilding the Fire and Rescue Services: policy, delivery and assurance. Her work explores the intersection of accountability practices and organizational change in public sector contexts.
She has received multiple awards, including the 2023 Best Paper Award from Nottingham Business School’s Accounting and Finance Department and the 2022 Public Administration Committee doctoral paper prize. Additionally, she serves as Editorial Assistant for the International Journal of Emergency Services and contributes to the HMICFRS Academic Advisory Group.
