Dr. Katalin Medvedev is a Professor in the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors at the University of Georgia's College of Family and Consumer Sciences. She specializes in global fashion studies, cultural aspects of dress, and social sustainability. Her research explores fashion's role in cultural identity, gender politics, and social justice issues such as racial inequity and ageism in the industry. Medvedev has received multiple teaching awards including the University of Georgia Teaching Academy (2018) and Outstanding Teacher of the Year (2016). She directs global study programs in China, Italy, and Peru, and teaches courses like 'Fashion: Why is it Meaningful?' in Cortona, Italy. Her recent projects include editing Fashion, Agency and Empowerment (2019) and exploring Persian rug symbolism and Islamic dress practices in the U.S. Medvedev advises over 10 PhD/Master’s students who now hold academic and industry roles at institutions like Cornell and SMU. She serves on editorial boards and committees for sustainability and women's studies initiatives.

Research emphasizes fashion peripheries, diversity in fashion education, and sustainable practices. Recent grants include a $6,500 New Approaches in Diversity Grant (2019-2021). Her 150+ peer-reviewed publications span topics from Cambodian fashion NGOs to ageism in New York's creative industries. Medvedev co-leads international conferences and has curated exhibitions on sustainable fashion pedagogy.
