Kata Moser is a Professor at the Department of Arabic / Islamic Studies I at the University of Göttingen, where she has held the junior professorship for 'Secularism in Islamic Modernity' since October 2019. Prior to this, she served as a research associate at the Department of Oriental Studies/Islamic Studies at the University of Bochum and as a research assistant at the Institute for Islamic Studies and Modern Oriental Philology at the University of Bern, where she completed her PhD in 2014. She holds an MA in Islamic Studies from the University of Bern (2009) and has studied at the Universities of Berlin, Bern, Leipzig, and Zurich. Her research spans contemporary Arab philosophy, secularism in Islamic modernity, Heidegger's reception in Arabic thought, and Arab theater.

Her academic work emphasizes interdisciplinary intersections of philosophy, religion, and cultural studies in the Arab and Islamic world. She co-edits the book series 'Philosophy in the Modern Middle East' (De Gruyter), and her fieldwork includes study and research stays in Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, and Iran.
