Karsten Lemmer

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Karsten Lemmer serves as a Member of the Executive Board at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), overseeing the 'Innovation, Transfer, and Scientific Infrastructures' division. His career spans roles in university research, the railway industry, and leadership positions at DLR since 2001. He was previously responsible for Energy and Transport divisions until February 2021.

Lemmer specializes in transportation systems, energy research, and hydrogen technology, with a focus on advancing technological maturity through large-scale research facilities. His work bridges academic innovation and industrial application.

He contributes to strategic advisory bodies including the Hydrogen Council, Scientific Advisory Board of the National Organization for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW), and the European Rail Research Advisory Council (ERRAC). At DLR, he founded the Institute of Transportation Systems, which now employs approximately 200 researchers.
