Karsten Helmholz is a Researcher affiliated with the University of Hamburg's Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures (CSMC). He holds a Master of Arts (MA) and specializes in IT infrastructure and data management within manuscript studies. His roles include Research Associate in the CSMC's Information Infrastructure sub-project (2011-2019), contributing to the Data Repository Manuscript Cultures. He is currently involved in the Cluster of Excellence 'Understanding Written Artefacts' (UWA, 2019-2025) and previously worked on the SFB 950 'Manuscript Cultures in Asia, Africa and Europe' (2011-2020).
His research interests focus on integrating digital tools and data management systems to support interdisciplinary manuscript studies. He collaborates on initiatives that bridge cultural heritage preservation with modern computational methods.
