Karoline Helene Aares

Karoline Helene Aares is a PhD Research Fellow at the Department of Arctic and Marine Biology, UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø. Her research explores cross-ecosystem connectivity between terrestrial and freshwater Arctic environments, with particular focus on litter decomposition processes and invertebrate roles in nutrient cycling.

Research interests include:

• Plant community responses to climate change
• Freshwater ecosystem dynamics
• Terrestrial-aquatic carbon/nutrient fluxes
• Arctic litter decomposition mechanisms
• Invertebrate-mediated ecological processes

Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on Arctic ecosystem responses to environmental change, with recent work examining litter decomposition drivers (2023) and climate impacts on Arctic plant-fungal symbioses (2021).
